Why is every human messed up in some way?

The important fact about our basic instincts is they are 100% selfish. So what happens when you take billions of people with hard-wired selfishness and try to make them play nice? You quickly find that the main goal for most is figuring out how to gain an advantage. Some people turn to violence, crime, and the usual ways of taking advantage that are obvious. Some people take advantage financially, and these days many many people legally take advantage of others. Talking to you corporations and politicians!
So in summary, humans are assholes because we are still programmed for hard survival despite living in a cozy time. We still think we need to compete for survival. Even in a time when there is enough of everything to go around.
That’s a really basic way to look at it, now consider other instincts and how their motivations translate to modern human society. None of it is all that positive. The definitions of survival set by our instincts have become obsolete. Our basic instincts are quite problematic in modern society. That’s why we are all medicated for anxiety and depression.
Why are white women so overly emotional?
So when the number of people behaving this way hits a certain point, other people have to start acting that way so they can also survive, they have no choice. Eventually, you run out of good people and it’s just corruption everywhere. Something we are seeing quite a bit these days. Trust between people just vanishes and we enter a social dark age. Thats where I believe we are headed right now. I blame the Government.
I find it astonishing how many world leaders make obvious bad decisions, what is scary though is many people have gone with the mindset ‘it is what it is, nothing I can do about it’. People have forgotten that we are actually in control, they work hard to make us forget.
Though we strive to set ourselves apart from the animal kingdom, the simple truth is we are not separate. We evolve to survive, just like everything else. We have instincts and the ultimate goal of self-preservation, just like any other creature. We have the same types of needs as any other mammal.
If there was only one man remaining on the Earth, would this be regarded as extinction?
Keep in mind when I say selfish, I mean in many ways, not just wanting more stuff than others but also socially, emotionally, etc.. If they see an advantage they go for it, regardless of it’s effects.
There only place we differ is our ability of higher thinking.
I believe that modern humans are not the final version of human beings, though we like to think we are. It’s clear to me that our minds are in a period of transition from instinct to higher thinking. Another factor in this is, that our minds have far more power than we can access. We simply are not there yet. So we have basic instincts holding us back, and a whole lot of ability we can’t access yet. This leads me to believe far in the future we will diverge from our ancient basic instincts if we make it that far. Right now I feel like the mindset of Americans has reverted to the 80’s. In other words, people are watching too much TV.
Has the current political environment caused Canadians to cancel trips to the United States?
If we don’t destroy ourselves first we will get to a point where all of our major social issues are solved. Not anytime soon. I’m pretty sure we are due for a horrific global event before people wake up.
I’ve got an interesting consideration for you.
Animals don’t have to deal with complexities, eat, sleep, drink, survive, reproduce. We share these same main instincts.

Today’s modern society pretty much has everyone living in the past and worrying about the future. Modern society is complex and exhausting. It’s interesting because it’s what we have built. Or what someone has built for us.
Animals live in the now, there is no past or future there is only the current moment, current needs, and current instinctual drives.
Over time education and the eradication of ignorance have softened the instincts of most. But ignorance is a tumor that has metastasized. Selfishness in the educational system and government has led to decreased education and the quality thereof. So the social environment is once again becoming favorable for those who are still selfish.

Humans have this, we call it mindfulness which is becoming a household term. We use mindfulness practices to ease stress, anxiety, and even depression. One might ask why focusing on right now does good things for your mental health. When we are graced with the ability to think about past, present, and future why do we need to focus on right now to regain balance?
The problem is how we try to fit our simplistic instincts into a complex society with billions of people.
